The workshop Tangible Magic was designed for Rotterdam’s William de Kooning students. It was delivered as part of programme on embodied knowledge during which different artists were invited to present their practices. The workshop circulated around the research on the notion of rejection of knowledge in the context of magic, but also urged to spread magical knowledge in practice — through embodied and intuitive forms. The students were invited join a ritual of herbal talisman making. We’ve discussed how talismans can be used to serve individual, collective or even political intensions and how specific herbs can be used in everyday life for protection, health and well-being. The workshop was accompanied by a lecture on witch-hunts, occulture and the struggle over magic.
