ALWAYS CONTAINER, SOMETIMES CONTAINED
2025
Part of Rotterdam Architecture Month
Oud House Rotterdam
Co-curated with Sonia Górecka
Where do you live? Did you leave a piece of yourself in every room you slept in, pack yourself into a suitcase every time you moved, turn a house into a keepsake even if you couldn’t keep it?
Do you have the keys? Can we go there?
Inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s seminal work The Poetics of Space (1958), the exhibition examines the house not only as an architectural structure, but as a space that holds and transforms our understanding of the world. Drawing from Bachelard’s vision of the house as a microcosm of the universe, the exhibition explores the ways in which intimate spaces become shelters for dreams, memories, and desires. Through various works, the artists imagine the house both as a site of comfort and constraint, where the past and present intersect to reveal the complex relationship between space and self.
